Interactive calculators on client sites — a simple way to boost engagement

Hi everyone — Daniel here. I mostly build brochure sites for small local businesses (trades, builders, landscapers) on Grav, and I wanted to share something that's worked really well for me: adding small interactive calculators to client sites.

For example, for a construction client I added a stair calculator so visitors could estimate rise, run and number of steps themselves instead of phoning the office for every quote. That single page became the most-visited page on their site and noticeably cut down the vague 'how much will it cost?' enquiries.

Why it works for client sites:

- Visitors stay on the page and interact instead of bouncing

- The business looks more professional and helpful

- It pre-qualifies enquiries — people who've done the maths are more serious

- It's easy in Grav: most of these tools can be embedded with a simple iframe or a custom shortcode

A few tips if you try this: put the tool on its own page, add a short intro covering the keywords the client wants to rank for, and finish with a clear call to action ('Need a hand with the build? Get a quote'). Keep the embed lightweight so it doesn't slow the page down.

As an example of the kind of tool I mean, this stair calculator is a good one to try: https://buildercalc.online/stair-calculator/ — it works out rise, run and total steps. There are similar free ones for concrete, bricks, paint, decking and roofing, which are handy for builders' and decorators' sites.

Has anyone else done this on client sites? Curious whether you've embedded interactive tools or built your own with forms and blueprints.
