Standard License
Trilby Media, LLC. grants you a non-expiring, non-exclusive license to use the Grav Premium Components. Grav Premium Components refer to Grav plugins, themes, or skeletons.
The license grants permission to one individual (the Licensee) to install the Grav Premium Components on a single production site. A license key will be generated for each purchase and that license key is intended for use only on a single production site.
You can:
- Use the Grav Premium Components on a single production site.
- Modify the Grav Premium Components to create derivative Grav Premium Components for your own use. Those Grav Premium Components are subject to this license, and cannot be resold or redistributed.
- Use the Grav Premium Components on your development, testing, or staging environments that serve as part of the workflow for your single production site.
You cannot:
- Use the Grav Premium Components to create End Products that are designed to allow an End User to build their own End Products using the Grav Premium Components or derivatives of the Grav Premium Components.
- Re-distribute the Grav Premium Components or derivatives of the Grav Premium Components separately from an End Product, neither in code or as a bundle of other components.
- Share your access to the Grav Premium Components with any other individuals.
Example usage
Examples of usage allowed by the license:
- Creating a personal website for yourself.
- Creating a website or web application for a client that will be owned by that client.
- Creating a commercial SaaS application (like an invoicing app for example) where end users have to pay a fee to use the application.
Examples of usage not allowed by the license:
- Sharing or providing access to Grav Premium Components either publicly or privately.
- Creating a "website builder" project where end users can build their own websites using Grav Premium Components included with or derived from Grav Premium Components.
- Creating a theme, template, plugin, or skeleton using the Grav Premium Components and making it available either for sale or for free to other individuals.
In simple terms, use Grav Premium products for anything you like except for projects that compete with Grav Premium and would have a negative impact on our product sales.

Team License Definitions
Licensee is the business entity who has purchased a Team License.
Grav Premium Components are the Grav premium products made available after purchasing a license key.
End Product is any artifact produced that incorporates the Grav Premium Components or derivatives of the Grav Premium Components.
End User is a user of an End Product.
Employee is a full-time or part-time employee of the Licensee.
Contractor is an individual or business entity contracted to perform services for the Licensee.

Client Sites vs. Products
Grav Premium Components are themes, skeletons and plugins, which means the thing you build with them can end up looking a lot like the thing you bought. This section spells out where the line sits. It applies to both the Standard and the Team license.
Delivering a site is fine. Build a site for yourself or for a client, modify the Grav Premium Components however you need along the way, and hand the finished site to whoever owns it. Each production site needs its own license key.
Distributing a component is not. You cannot package a theme, skeleton, plugin or starter site that contains Grav Premium Components, or anything derived from them, and pass it to other people. That applies whether you charge for it or give it away, and it applies however much you have changed it. A heavily modified theme is still a derivative of the theme it started from. The proportion of your own work in it does not change that.
The difference is repetition. One site, delivered once, to one owner is fine. A component distributed to many people is not.
If you have built something on top of a Grav Premium Component and you want to sell it, the usual answer is to separate your own original work into standalone plugins that carry no Grav Premium code. Those are yours to sell however you like, and we would be glad to see them in the ecosystem. Email us at [email protected] if you want to talk it through.
Open Source
Our plugins may use existing open source packages inside them and these often have their own licenses. If any license requires a global license type to maintain compatibility with that license, then the plugin should be considered a dual license of the Grav Premium license and the compatible license type. Any open source elements contained in a Grav Premium component are free to be distributed and used in accordance with their license.
