    I've been doing this kinda thing for a LONG time, and have used many mailing lists and frankly they are much less user friendly and definitely much slower and clunkier than a more interactive solution

    Great and thanks for the notice! :-D Others might run into the same problems, but they now know at least what can happen unexpectedly when upgrading. Doing backups like you did is always recommended..
